2025-4 Ager, Spain, Task 1

44 pilots flew the longest ever SRS task today, a stunning 117kms over some of the finest scenery on the paragliding planet, all the way to Organya. In fact, it was so far that pilot Rep Chris Hobbs exhausted his entire ABBA play list en route. Well done to Gerry McNicol claiming his first SRS win, to first lady Riley Ferry, and to top team Perfils. Well done to the Goldsmiths, who were the top father and son team today. This is how Gerry described today’s task: A big task to kick things off, 117km of bumpy ridge racing mixed with slow and tactical flatland. The day shifted gears multiple times. No clouds meant that feeling out the convergence lines was tricky. The crux was crossing the valley. My group choose the direct path and we scratched through some very slow climbs, touch and go at points. After the valley the race was anyone’s. It was just who got the boomer thermal. Luckily a magical vulture came to find me and show me the way. I was rewarded with a sustained 6 up screamer that took me all the way to goal. Great task.
